3rd League | Dynamo Dresden jumps to promotion place

Third division football club Dynamo Dresden has underlined its ambitions for a direct return to the lower house by conquering a promotion place.

The Saxons won the relegation duel at FC Ingolstadt 3-2 (2-1) and, with their eighth win in the past twelve games without defeat, pushed SV Wehen Wiesbaden from third place, which is currently behind leaders SV Elversberg and the reserve of the Bundesliga club, which is not eligible for promotion SC Freiburg is enough to jump into the second division.

In contrast to Dynamo, Ingolstadt had to bury his hopes of promotion two days after the early departure of the previous sports director Malte Metzelder. After only two points from six games without a win, the team of Dresden’s ex-coach Guerino Capretti is 15 points behind Wiesbaden, which occupies the relegation place, ten rounds before the end of the season.

Dresden showed character in the groundbreaking encounter with their eighth away win after falling behind early on due to Denis Linsmayer (5th). Paul Will (10th) and Ahmet Arslan (40th) set the course for the fourth win in a row before the break.

After the change of sides, the third guest goal by Jakob Lemmer (58th) meant the decision in favor of the team of SGD coach Markus Anfang. Despite Donald Nduka’s (61st) quick goal, outnumbered after the yellow-red card against Valmir Sulejmani (82nd), the hosts were no longer able to prevent the seventh home defeat.
