FC Erzgebirge Aue put in a brilliant performance in their last home appearance in the 3rd league. In front of more than 10,000 spectators, the Violets achieved a goalless draw against third-placed MSV Duisburg. To the delight of Duisburg’s competitor Energie Cottbus.

FC Erzgebirge Aue celebrated a respectable success in its last third division home game for the time being. The already relegated team lost a point to promotion aspirant MSV Duisburg in a 0-0 draw. The Saxons are now unbeaten in six competitive games in a row under new coach Khvicha Shubitidze. The result should also bring joy in Lausitz, because with a win on Saturday in Regensburg, Cottbus can distance Duisburg, who were currently tied on points, by two points.

From the start it developed into an encounter in which the favorite went on the offensive and Aue withdrew. The violets stood well and won many duels. All the possession of the ball wasn’t of much use to the guests. The Saxons relied on quick counterattacks, and Guttau once came through from the right. The three-time scorer from 5:3 in Ingolstadt failed with a shot that was too central to keeper Braune (21′).

Aue doesn’t allow much for a long time

The MSV often didn’t get through. After just 35 minutes, coach Hirsch sent some of his substitute players to warm up. Shortly before the break, his team had the two best opportunities so far. Of all people, the former Auer second division striker Krüger moved up and away on the right, he fed Töpken in the middle, who forced Lord to react brilliantly (41′). Bitter placed the following corner just wide to the left.

In the second half, Duisburg initially bit its teeth more and more against Aue with its wide-ranging game. There were many degrees, but too few really dangerous ones. Defender Schlicke narrowly missed the FCE box after a corner (64′).

Wild final phase in front of more than 10,000

The hosts themselves now repeatedly had half chances. Often only a tick was missing. In the final phase it got wild in front of the more than 10,000 spectators. Duisburg kept trying, but Aue fought hard.

Goalkeeper Lord shines in the final phase

Keeper Lord had to risk his life against Lobinger (84th), watch out for ex-Zwickau player Coskun’s attempt in the near corner (86th) and direct the ball over with his fingertips when Jessen’s cross shot (90th).

Aue leaves the score 1-0 three times

In stoppage time, Aue had the golden goal in sight three times against the advanced Duisburg team: Ehlers (90+6) and Bär (90+7) each failed because of goalkeeper Braune. The free Uhlmann couldn’t find Ehlers in the middle (90+7). In the end it was a draw: at the home end of his 23-year professional career, the FCE fans once again saw a lot of Auer’s fighting spirit. And they said goodbye to their team with applause after a disappointing season.
