TSV 1860 Munich wins the three points at Viktoria Köln and celebrates their fifth win in a row. This puts the Lions ahead in the promotion race for the 3rd league.
Not pretty, but successful. This is how you could describe the performance of TSV 1860 Munich this Friday evening in Cologne-Höhenberg. The Lions celebrated their fifth win in a row thanks to Kevin Volland’s golden goal. The spectators hadn’t really gotten their money’s worth in the previous 90 minutes. The Giesingers continued their winning streak with the 1-0 (1-0) and are at least temporarily level on points with the relegation place.
Volland uses Victoria blunder for leadership
The Lions dominated the game from the start, but it took until the eleventh minute before there was a hint of danger in the air. Right-back Tim Danhof’s attempt, which went past on the left, put the Cologne goal in serious trouble. Fifteen minutes later, the hosts also registered. Because Löwen goalkeeper Marcel Dähne was unable to clear a free kick straight away, an uneasy situation arose, but the keeper was able to clear it up in the second attempt (25th).
The guests from Munich continued to have more of the game and converted their superiority into a goal shortly before half-time. The pressing captain Thore Jacobsen grabbed a pass that was too short from Cologne goalkeeper Arne Schulz and passed it straight on to Volland. The former Bundesliga professional converted to take the lead at half-time (38th).
Lions bring leadership over time
The second 45 minutes were not an improvement on the first half – on the contrary. Nico Handle’s direct pass from the second row started the game, but it didn’t find its way into the net (54′). As a result, both teams resorted to duels. That really hurt the flow of the game. Only five minutes before the end of regular time, Cologne’s Lars Dietz headed a corner just wide of the goal (85th). Even if the Lions played some of the counterattacks inaccurately in the final minutes, it was still enough for the three points. With the fifth win in a row, the hope of promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga is once again at Giesing’s heights.
