3rd division: VfB Oldenburg plays well, but loses – Meppen wins thanks to Pourié

Promoted VfB Oldenburg sold expensively, but lost an eventful and entertaining third division game at 1860 Munich on Saturday 0-1 (0-0). SV Meppen, on the other hand, defeated FSV Zwickau 3-0 (0-0) thanks to a hat-trick by Marvin Pourié.

The underdog from Lower Saxony didn’t hide, boldly played forward from the start and seemed to surprise Bayern Munich. After just three minutes, the guests in the stadium on Grünwalder Straße had their first top-class chance, Werder loanee Kebba Badjie shot from around ten meters and the ball just missed the left post.

In the 20th minute Manfred Starke had the deserved lead after a great pass from Justin Plautz. The veteran only had to push the ball into the open goal, but because that didn’t work, the score remained 0-0. It took a while for the home side to find their feet. If they became dangerous in the first 45 minutes, it was on the right flank, where Yannick Deichmann made a strong showing.

1860 Munich makes steam after the break

After the change of sides, the “lions” presented themselves much better. Oldenburg initially survived the pressure phase of the home side and even had another huge opportunity to make it 1-0 in the 67th minute: Jakob Bookjans, who had just come on as a substitute, came free in front of Marco Hiller, but the “Löwen” keeper made a strong save.

A joker also attracted attention on the other side: Christopher Lannert circled the ball from 25 meters to the crossbar. Shortly thereafter, the hosts converted their performance improvement into something countable: Phillipp Steinhart crossed from the left and found Deichmann on the second post, who headed in the middle. Jesper Verlaat, who had come into play just before, lurked there and steered the ball over the line with his chest – the 1-0 for Munich. And also the winning goal. Oldenburg, who deserved a point, kept trying. In vain.

Three Pourié goals in Meppen victory

SV Meppen managed their first win of the season in the third division. The Emsländer defeated FSV Zwickau 3-0 (0-0) thanks to a flawless hat-trick by the new centre-forward Marvin Pourié. The former player from Braunschweig only scored all three goals in the closing stages: he scored in the 75th, 81st and in the third minute of overtime. Zwickau were equal opponents for a long time, but were outnumbered from the 49th minute after Jan Löhmannsröben received a yellow-red card.
