The government is definitively investing 38 million euros in the development and broad use of open learning materials in education. With this money, the National Growth Fund Project Impuls Open Learning Materials can develop more high-quality learning materials, reach more schools and better support teachers. The total budget for the project has therefore been set at 78 million euros.
Impuls Open Learning Materials improves the quality of education by making current and accessible collections of open learning materials available. This gives teachers more room to organize their teaching flexibly and better match the talents of students. This contributes to more motivation, fewer dropouts and a more attractive teaching position.
The project previously received 40 million euros in the second round of the National Growth Fund. After a positive additional advice from the National Growth Fund Advisory Committee, the government has now also definitively allocated the remaining 38 million.
The advisory committee notes that the project is making good progress. More than 125 new collections have now been made available, organizations such as Sound & Vision, NEMO and Naturalis are participating and more than 750 schools are involved. With the additional resources, the project can focus on learning materials for specific target groups, such as specialized education, and on further professionalization of teachers.
The government is also adopting the recommendations of the advisory committee to better monitor the use of open educational materials and to explore how these materials can best be made available for use.
