34-time international Lens surprisingly signs with French third divisionist | NOW

Jeremain Lens very surprisingly makes the switch to FC Versailles, which plays at the third level in France. The club will announce that on Thursday.

Lens was on a free transfer after his Besiktas contract expired this summer. Until when the attacker has signed with the French low-flyer has not been announced.

The 34-year-old Lens had gotten sidetracked at Besiktas. Last season he was no longer allowed to train with the selection of the Turkish top club and he kept his condition up on his own. He played his last game in May 2021, as a mercenary from Fatih Karagümrük.

Versailles became champion at the fourth tier in France last season and has ambitions to immediately advance to Ligue 2, the second tier after this promotion. Last season, Versailles also very surprisingly reached the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, in which the team was eliminated by OGC Nice.

FC Versailles becomes Lens’ ninth club. The attacker went through Ajax’s youth academy, but made his debut in professional football at AZ. He also played for NEC, PSV, Dynamo Kyiv, Sunderland, Fenerbahçe, Besiktas and Fatih Karagümrük.

Lens played 34 international matches – in which he scored eight times – and was active in the 2014 World Cup.
