With a starting measure, the MSV Duisburg has registered back into German professional football. Driven by the fans, the MSV has set up a new starting record.
The MSV moves further on the wave of success. The 3-0 victory in the promoted duel against 1. FC Schweinfurt was the sixth win of the season in the sixth game. The MSV thus set up a new league record. Duisburg had previously shared the record of five wins at the start with the Kickers Offenbach (2010/11) and 1860 Munich (2022/23).
MSV leads the table by far
“Tastes very good,” said MSV coach Dietmar Hirsch after the last home game on Saturday when looking at the table at “Magenta Sport”. The away win in the English week in Schweinfurt has added three points. With now 18 points, the “zebras” rank five points to the competition at the league tip.
The euphoria is noticeable these days. No matter whether with the team, in the city or at the fans. Over 20,000 spectators came to the stadium at the home game on Saturday, and on Tuesday evening the MSV was supported by 800 fans in Schweinfurt, 400 kilometers away.
“This is the madness of the Wedau. We can be very grateful for what we experience for support. It’s just cool to play for these fans,” said Tobias Fleckstein on Tuesday evening.
Descent curse and blessing at the same time
Inspired by this support, the MSV is currently floating through the stadiums after a year of a third division break. A little more than a year ago, the relationship between fans and club looked very different. After the descent to the Regionalliga West was fixed, hooded MSV supporters stormed the interior during a game. “We despise you on the square that you are part of this story” and “A shame for Duisburg”, was read on banners, among other things.
But instead of falling apart in the 4. League, you have reorganized the Wedau. Under the motto “MSV combines with the fans, united with the city”, clubs and fans have moved together again.
“That turns on us”
“If you hear this here, with the fans that turns on us,” said Hirsch after the 3-0 victory in Schweinfurt. “Celebrate victories, that’s the best feeling, you have fun, you come with a completely different feeling for training. We are now going home for over four hours. But everything doesn’t matter,” said Fleckstein.
The furious start of the season shows that the MSV has managed to do the euphoria, which has been sparked again in the regional league at the latest since the championship, at the latest 3. League gain weight. This is also due to the unity within the team.
“Nobody has an ego here that he puts over the group. We live in the staff and that is the all decisive for us,” says Hirsch, who is the basis for the current success in particular the attributes “work”, “diligence”, “attitude”, “team idea” and mentality: “If you get the mentality that also fits the Ruhrpott, then it is difficult to beat us.”
MSV is striving for the seventh win at the next promoted
The signs are not bad that the MSV will continue to expand its series. On Sunday (1.30 p.m.) Duisburg will be a guest at the next promoted and the bottom of TSV Havelse.
