In the documentary “Final Account” director Luke Holland deals with the subject of perpetrators in the Third Reich. The work will be available on DVD and digital from July 14th.
We’re giving away three DVDs, each with 24-page booklets containing background information about the film.
How do moral norms dissolve? How does a person become a follower? How even to the perpetrator? These questions are still relevant 77 years after the end of the Second World War. In Final Account, director Luke Holland attempts to provide answers. For more than ten years, he and his team collected material on complicity and perpetrators in the Third Reich – including 250 interviews with men and women from former SS members to simple civilians.
FINAL ACCOUNT began for Luke Holland as a quest for answers to questions about his own family history. His maternal grandparents, who came from Vienna, were murdered in the Nazi concentration camps. The mother, who fled to England, gave birth to Holland in Shropshire. In 1952 the family finally settled in Paraguay, where Holland grew up in a German-speaking Christian community and among indigenous tribes. Between all these different influences, Holland only learned very late that he was Jewish. This prompted him to grapple with his own identity.
