2nd league: Paderborn’s coach Kwasniok released from custody

As of: 05/24/2023 8:08 p.m

Lukas Kwasniok, coach of the second division football club SC Paderborn, has been released from custody in Mallorca without conditions.

The club confirmed this to WDR on Wednesday. He will return to Germany on Thursday. Kwasniok was privately on the Spanish island. The 41-year-old had previously been taken into custody – allegedly on charges of sexual assault, as the “Mallorca-Zeitung” and the Spanish newspaper “Ultima Hora” had previously reported. It is the presumption of innocence.

The two newspapers had written that a hotel in the tourist resort of Cala Ratjada called the police on Monday evening because a woman had reported a sexual assault. This reportedly led to Kwasniok. The woman met him on the beach and later met him in a hotel room. According to the newspaper, the attack happened there.

Kwasniok has not yet commented on the case. “We will not make any further statements, except to refer to the content of the court’s decision, which is clear and has proved us right,” quoted the “Mallorca-Zeitung” as saying Kwasniok’s lawyer Maria Barbancho. The procedure is still pending.
