2nd league: Important victory for Hannover 96 against Jahn Regensburg

Hannover 96 celebrated its first win of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga. The team of coach Stefan Leitl won 1-0 (0-0) late on Sunday (14.08.2022) against SSV Jahn Regensburg.

An own goal by Steve Breitkreuz (83rd) ensured the success of the Hanoverians on matchday 4, who had previously lost twice and drawn once. Breitkreuz deflected a shot by substitute Antonio Foti into his own net. The 18-year-old Eintracht player made a game-changing move in his first second division appearance. For Jahn it was the first defeat of the season.

Prince Owusu forgives twice

The hosts attacked the game in front of 20,700 spectators, they combined well in the Regensburg penalty area, but there was a lack of consistency when it came to creating chances. The guests were more dangerous: Prince Owusu (36th/45th + 2) twice appeared free in front of 2014 world champion Ron-Robert Zieler, twice the goalkeeper parried first-class.

But suddenly Hannover again: On the other side, Jahn keeper Dejan Stojanovic saved a header from substitute Nicolo Tresoldi (79th). Shortly thereafter, Breitkreuz steered the ball into his own goal.

Hannover travels to Magdeburg on Friday (6:30 p.m.) for the next match day, while Regensburg plays Karlsruhe on Saturday (1 p.m.).
