2nd league: Fortuna Düsseldorf shortens the gap to HSV – Hansa and KSC win

KSC climbs

Fortuna Düsseldorf draws new hope in the fight for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. With the 3-0 (3-0) win over Holstein Kiel on Saturday, the fourth in the table reduced the gap to the relegation rank to four points. Inspired by the mistake of the third Hamburger SV, who had to be content with a 2: 2 at home against Paderborn the day before, the team of coach Daniel Thioune ensured clear conditions early on in an ice-cold manner. In front of 28,935 spectators in the Merkur Spiel-Arena, Shinta Appelkamp (14th), André Hoffmann (19th) and Daniel Ginczek (24th, penalty kick) scored to secure victory.

In a game that was balanced over long stretches, the Düsseldorfers proved to be extremely efficient and immediately took advantage of the first three chances. Appelkamp’s header started the disaster for the bewildered guests, who had to concede two more goals within a few minutes through Hoffmann and Ginczek. On the other hand, the people of Kiel were unsuccessful even with the best opportunities provided by Steven Skrzybski (32nd) and Lewis Holtby (44th). Fortuna was not the game-determining team in the 2nd half either, but they certainly took the lead over time.

Pröger and Verhoek meet: Hansa wins basement duel against Regensburg

With the third win in a row, FC Hansa Rostock has shot itself out of the immediate relegation zone. Coach Alois Schwartz’s team deservedly defeated second-bottom SSV Jahn Regensburg 2-0 (1-0) on Saturday and, three rounds before the end of the season, is four points ahead of relegation rank 16. Kai Pröger (34th) and John Verhoek (79th). .) scored the goals for Mecklenburg in front of more than 24,000 spectators in the almost sold-out Ostseestadion.

Both teams delivered the expected fighting game. For a good half hour, practically nothing happened in both penalty areas. Until Pröger came. The bustling right winger maneuvered the ball from an acute angle with his outside instep to his ninth goal of the season into the bottom right corner. After the restart, Bayern pushed for an equalizer, but without any suitable means. Hansa’s defensive bulwark allowed almost nothing, so goalkeeper Markus Kolke was not busy.

On the other side, Verhoek already had the 2-0 on his feet in the 62nd minute. The center forward, who was substituted shortly before, missed completely free-standing. Verhoek did better ten minutes before the end: after a cross from Kevin Schumacher, the edgy Dutchman headed in and decided the game.

Thanks to an early double strike: KSC gets 3 points against 96 and climbs

The Karlsruher SC has also mathematically secured the league. Thanks to a furious start and after a curious goal conceded, coach Christian Eichner’s team beat Hannover 96 2-1 (2-1) on Saturday. With 42 points now, KSC overtook Hannover (40) and consolidated its place in the secured midfield. The fact that one of the two competitors could still be in danger of relegation was no longer to be expected before the kick-off.

In front of 21,477 spectators, Karlsruher SC started powerfully and, thanks to a double strike, was already 2-0 up after twelve minutes. Hannover’s Julian Börner was instrumental in both goals. First, the defender’s ball bounced into his own goal, the goal was attributed to KSC striker Mikkel Kaufmann (4th). Then Börner lost the ball with serious consequences before Fabian Schleusener (12′) successfully completed it. Another KSC hit in the spirited opening phase didn’t count because of an offside position.

The guests only became more dangerous in the middle of the first half. Thanks to the curious connection, they made it exciting again. An attempted liberation by Marcel Franke hit Louis Schaub, from whose thigh the ball flew over KSC goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck and into the goal (43′). It stayed that way until the end.
