2nd league: Ducksch promotes Werder Bremen back to first place – FCH slows down 1. FC Nürnberg

Fortuna gambled away victory at KSC

Despite a disappointing 1:1 (0:0) against SV Sandhausen, Werder Bremen took the lead again in the 2nd Bundesliga. Marvin Ducksch saved Bremen at least one point on Sunday in front of 36,000 spectators in the Weser Stadium.

The striker, who returned after his coronavirus infection, scored the deserved equalizer in the 73rd minute. Previously, the ex-Bremer Pascal Testroet had put the relegation-threatened guests in the lead (64th). Werder is now one point ahead of SV Darmstadt 98 and FC St. Pauli. Next Saturday there will be a duel between St. Pauli and Werder.

Bremen were superior against Sandhausen for 90 minutes and had almost 70 percent possession of the ball. The north Germans could not use their chances for a long time. With their first and only opportunity, the guests surprisingly took the lead through Testroet. Ducksch saved Werder a point and thus their return to the top of the table.

1. FC Nuremberg loses at 1. FC Heidenheim

The attack by 1. FC Nuremberg on the promotion places in the 2nd division fizzled out with a bang. The offensively harmless “Club” lost 1:3 (0:2) at home strong 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday. Tim Kleindienst (3rd/84th minute) with his eight and nine goals this season and Maurice Malone (36th) on loan from FC Augsburg scored for the hosts, who were just one point behind Nuremberg (46 points). The only “Club” goal by Manuel Schäffler (88th) came too late.

Before the last six games, Nuremberg are five points behind the promotion zone. In front of 10,673 spectators, coach Robert Klauß’s team lacked the power to attack. Pascal Köpke could have given the game a different direction. The striker failed in the 2nd minute, freed by Taylan Duman, on the good Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller.

Fortuna Düsseldorf lost 2-0 at KSC

Despite initially having a great advantage and a secure 2-0 lead, Fortuna Düsseldorf had to be satisfied with a point at Karlsruher SC. With the 2: 2 (2: 0) the team of Daniel Thioune remained undefeated in the seventh game under the new coach and increased the lead over the relegation zone to five points six games before the end of the season.

Daniel Ginczek (31st minute) and Rouwen Hennings (38th) gave the Rhinelanders the lead in front of 17,907 spectators. KSC, weak before the break, equalized after an increase in performance in the second half with a penalty kick from Marvin Wanitzek (66th) and striker Philipp Hofmann’s 16th goal of the season (83rd).
