Two expulsions in Braunschweig

Miroslav Klose missed his third win in the emotionally charged Frankenderby with 1. FC Nürnberg despite leading twice. In a spectacular duel with SpVgg Greuther Fürth after the break, the FCN coach had to settle for an annoying 2:2 (0:0) in the 2nd Bundesliga after two clear wins in the previous season.

Heiko Vogel was able to feel good in the Max Morlock Stadium when he scored an away point that was very important for morale in front of 47,150 spectators on his debut as Fürth coach. In a turbulent 13 minutes, Luka Lochoshvili (48th) and Mohamed Alì Zoma (57th) gave the club the lead twice. But Fürth hit back with Felix Klaus (53rd) and the strong Aaron Keller (61st).

Klose’s team pushed until the end, but Fürth had the winning goal in sight: FCN goalkeeper Jan Reichert first fended off a long-range shot from Julian Green against the post and also kept Klaus’ follow-up shot strong (83′). An impressive choreography in the FCN fan block documented the enormous importance of the traditional duel. Even on the pitch things quickly became emotional when a pack formed. The club mostly had the ball, but initially lacked speed in the game and precision with a number of crosses.

Vogel had only made a personnel change for the Fürth team, but at the same time switched to a defensive back four. His team created their best chance before the break. Lochoshvili unluckily headed a cross from Aaron Keller. However, goalkeeper Reichert prevented the own goal with a reflex (33). There wasn’t much more. Different after the break. That’s when things really took off in the Nuremberg stadium.

1. FC Magdeburg stops Hertha BSC’s series

1. FC Magdeburg stopped Hertha BSC’s winning streak with a surprising away win. Coach Petrik Sander’s team, which was heavily weakened in terms of substitutes, fought for a 2-0 (0-0) win against the Berliners, who had previously won five times in a row and also kept a clean sheet. In front of 45,563 spectators in the Berlin Olympic Stadium, Alexander Nollenberger (74th) and Rayan Ghrieb (90th + 10th) scored the goals for the guests.

Goal area scenes in the first half were limited to the opening phase, in which Fabian Reese took the lead in the second minute. More drive came onto the pitch in the second half of the game. Magdeburg’s Falko Michel was denied by Hertha’s goalkeeper Tjark Ernst in the 52nd minute, and Berlin’s Michaël Cuisance put the ball just wide of the goal from around 20 meters three minutes later.

A good quarter of an hour before the end of regular time, Barik Atik reached the goal line and passed to Nollenberger, who volleyed in from around six meters. Hertha then pushed for the equalizer. Magdeburg spoiled a few counterattack opportunities, with Dariusz Stalmach only hitting the outside post (85′). Substitute Ghrieb did better shortly before the end of stoppage time.

Braunschweig and Kiel miss out on their liberation

Eintracht Braunschweig and Holstein Kiel drew 1-1 (1-1) in a wild game. Both teams missed a decisive step out of the bottom of the table and remain stuck in the bottom third of the table. In front of 19,252 spectators, the hosts took the lead in the 25th minute with a hand penalty converted by Mehmet Aydin. Niklas Niehoff (45th + 6) achieved the deserved equalizer in stoppage time in the first half.

At this point, the Braunschweigers were already outnumbered because Lukas Frenkert was shown a red card in the 43rd minute for an emergency stop – a tough decision. Shortly after the break, Kiel’s Lasse Rosenboom also saw a yellow-red card, so the game continued with ten against ten.

The match had to be interrupted right at the start for just over six minutes because pyrotechnics were set off in both fan curves and thick smoke obscured visibility in the stadium. A dubious action two days after the end of the Interior Ministers’ Conference, where the very tough measures were not taken. After the continuation, a hectic game developed with many interruptions. The Kiel team were unable to take the momentum from the cup coup at Hamburger SV and are still lagging behind expectations. The draw at least left Braunschweig out of the relegation place.
