2nd division: St. Pauli series continues at SC Paderborn – 1. FC Kaiserslautern loses

Daschner scores twice

FC St. Pauli continued its winning streak in the 2nd Bundesliga and dealt SC Paderborn a serious setback in the promotion race. The “Kiezkicker” won their sixth game in a row on Friday evening with a double strike from Lukas Daschner (15th/42nd minute) and celebrated a 2-1 (2-0) win at fourth place in the table. As a result, Ostwestfalen, who had not been defeated in five games in a row, only managed to score through an own goal by Karol Mets (51st) to reduce the gap to third place. The Hamburgers, who have now been undefeated in eight games, consolidated seventh place with 35 points.

15,000 visitors in the sold-out Home Deluxe Arena saw a balanced game in which the hosts lacked the proven offensive momentum. Coach Lukas Kwasniok had to replace the top three scorers, Robert Leipertz, Marvin Pieringer and Felix Platte, as well as captain Ron Schallenberg. With a compact defense, the efficient guests held up well and made it 2-0 before the break thanks to Daschner’s two goals. With the help of the Mets, the hosts, who had been unlucky to hit the bar by Bashir Humphreys, only managed to get back the goal. Paderborn’s offensive player Sirlord Conteh saw the yellow-red card in the final phase.

Magdeburg’s upswing continues: 2-0 home win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern

1. FC Magdeburg has ended its home curse with a win in the promoted duel. The Elbe city-dwellers won 2-0 (1-0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Friday evening in front of 24,528 spectators and clinched their first home win since the tenth matchday. Moritz Kwarteng (41st) put FCM in front with his eighth goal of the season, substitute Tatsuya Ito (65th) marked the final score. With the first home win since October 2022, Magdeburg improved to eleventh place in the table and is now seven points ahead of the relegation place. For Kaiserslautern it was the third away defeat in a row.

Christian Titz had to do without Daniel Elfadli, who had the flu, and put Silas Gnaka up in midfield instead. The guests tried to take the space away from Magdeburg, but FCM found gaps: two shots by Mohammed El Hankouri (11th, 12th) steered Andreas Luthe into a corner in the FCK goal. Goalscorer Terrence Boyd (17′) scored on the other side, but was previously offside. The guests now interspersed ball possession phases, but goal danger did not arise for a long time. Then Jason Ceka put through to Kwarteng (41st), which was worth seeing, and put FCM in the lead.

After the change of sides, the guests closed the wings, Magdeburg didn’t really come into play. The game needed some time to get going again, Boyd’s shot (57th) was too misplaced. At the other end, Luthe saved against FCM captain Amara Condé (59′) before substitute Ito (65′) raised after a strong heel-heel from Baris Atik.
