1. FC Köln is the Bundesliga club that takes the most crosses out of play. For this reason alone it is hardly surprising that coach Steffen Baumgart’s team will rely on Leart Paqarada in the future. The Kosovan national player is moving to the Rhine in the summer.

The loss suffered by FC St. Pauli as a result was shown in Nuremberg after a good half hour of play. A left-footed cross from Paqarada landed perfectly on Medić’s head, who scored to make it 1-0 for Hamburg. It was the sixth assist of the season for Aachen-born Paqarada.

Gyamerah forgives from close range

The visitors’ lead at the break was a bit lucky, because Nuremberg was more active on the offensive. However, the “Club” missed the best opportunity to equalize when Jan Gyamerah shot free from five yards. However, he aimed too centrally, so St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj saved the ball (38th minute). A good shot by Lino Tempelmann flew just wide of the Hamburg goal in injury time in the first half.

Victory in the debut of head coach Hürzeler

After the break, the spectators in the Max Morlock Stadium saw no more good opportunities. The coaches changed a lot, Nuremberg took more and more risks and therefore gave the guests space for counterattacks. The team of the new head coach Fabian Hürzeler made bad use of this.

In the closing stages, St. Pauli impressed above all with a focused defensive performance. In the end, the Hamburgers cheered, who now have 20 points and thus one more than the Franconians.

Nuremberg has to go to Fürth

1. FC Nürnberg has to play against SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the Franconian derby on matchday 19 (Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at 8:30 p.m.). St. Pauli has to deal with Hannover 96 a day later (1.30 p.m.).
