Around 100 football fans of the second division FC Hansa Rostock, some of whom were masked, stole food and drinks from a gas station in Büchen in the Duchy of Lauenburg on Sunday evening.
The day after a gas station was looted by around 100 football fans, tenant Mathias Reich was shocked. “I don’t understand why people degenerate like that,” he says. “I haven’t seen that before.”
On Sunday, second division soccer team Hannover received 96 FC Hansa Rostock at their home stadium, including around 5,500 Rostock fans. The game ended with 1:1. On the way back, around 100 fans plundered a gas station in Büchen in the Duchy of Lauenburg, according to a federal police spokesman, some of them were masked. They had previously missed their connecting train due to a train delay, as the federal and state police announced in writing on Monday afternoon.
Mental consequences worse than property damage
“The first were actually still very willing to pay and then it started, then the whole thing escalated and then suddenly our entire ice cream and beverage chest was almost completely cleared out,” says tenant Reich. He himself was not at the gas station when the incident happened. His 19-year-old employee called him because she didn’t know what to do anymore. “I feel sorry for her the most,” says Reich. The Hansa-Rostock supporters apparently hadn’t thought at all about “what that triggers in the employees, how it affects their soul,” says Reich.

Danger speeches and possible stadium bans
According to the police, the pure property damage amounts to around 300 euros. According to the police, more than 40 cases were identified after the incident and are now being processed further as criminal charges are filed. The Büchen police station is responsible for this, said a spokesman for the federal police on Monday. The officers would now view video material to possibly identify other crimes or perpetrators. Gas station leaseholder Reich hopes that at least some of the perpetrators will be identified and held accountable “for the crap they did here.”
For football fans, for example, the incident could result in stadium bans, according to the federal police spokesman. In addition, so-called danger speeches would be carried out.
150 officers from the state and federal police on duty
According to the police, the supporters of FC Hansa Rostock were accompanied by officials on the train from Hanover to Rostock – according to the information, the situation up to Büchen was calm and without incident. When the fan squad reached Büchen, other officers from the state and federal police arrived. Shortly thereafter, the gas station was robbed. A total of 150 officers had to intervene. The affected gas station and another gas station in Büchen were closed.
Fans continue with a delay
After three hours, according to the information, the situation was under control again and the train was able to continue towards Rostock with a long delay. Immediately after the game, the police had drawn a positive balance: According to the information, there were no significant problems during the game, immediately before and after – only minor incidents.
Hansa trailer already conspicuous several times
Back in February, Hansa fans rioted during the northern duel between St. Pauli and FC Hansa Rostock. Some supporters had massively used pyrotechnics and projectiles in the Millerntor Stadium, and a steward and a fan were injured. Rostock’s club boss Robert Marien found clear words for the incidents in the NDR interview: “Violence was involved today, and violence is such a red line that must never be crossed.” St. Pauli President Oke Göttlich puts point deductions up for discussion as possible future penalties.

There was also an incident with a group of fans on the train in Schleswig-Holstein last November: According to the police, a good 300 Holstein Kiel fans were on their way back from the away game at FC St. Pauli in Hamburg when escalations in the carriage occurred. Window panes were destroyed, mirrors and ceiling panels torn out. In addition, windows, walls and mirror surfaces were damaged with stickers and graffiti. The wagon involved was so badly damaged in the act that it had to be taken out of service.
