2nd Bundesliga: Paderborn beats KSC in overtime

SC Paderborn made a step up in the Bundesliga 2 table with a late win at Karlsruher SC.

Paderborn came close to the promotion zone with the 1-0 (0-0) on Friday (01/27/2023). The KSC, on the other hand, only has a narrow lead over the relegation place. Robert Leipertz scored the decisive goal in added time.

Paderborn ended a series of four consecutive defeats with the win in Karlsruhe. Before the league continues, SC Paderborn will host Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup (Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 6 p.m.).

Both teams miss the goal for a long time – until Paderborn’s Leipertz hits

KSC started the game a little better in front of 17,151 spectators and also had the first big chance: Schleusner aimed over the goal in distress (15th minute). Paderborn’s Robert Leipertz failed on the other side with a volley from KSC goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck (23′), Sirlord Conteh couldn’t get past Gersbeck either (41′).

Both teams missed the goal in the second half, but the SCP had the better chances. Paderborn’s Conteh shot over the target on the right in front of the goal (60′), Leipertz poked the ball just wide of the goal in the crowd (66′).

Leipertz used his third big chance in stoppage time: After winning the ball in midfield, Sebastian Klaas freed his team-mate Leipertz, who shot in low from twelve meters (90+2).

Paderborn now against Düsseldorf, KSC in Magdeburg

On the 19th matchday, Paderborn will continue with a home game against Düsseldorf (Friday, February 3rd, 2023 at 6.30 p.m.). Karlsruhe has to pass Magdeburg two days later (1:30 p.m.).
