Police say the temporary pedestrian bridge collapsed around 9:30 a.m. Images from Finnish media show that the bottom of the bridge has fallen and that several people are still injured on the ground. The bridge was several meters high, people fell from there onto the street below.
The fire brigade said in the newspaper ‘Ilta-Sanomat’ that forty children were walking on the bridge when it collapsed. The injured were taken to four different hospitals.
The pedestrian bridge is located in the municipality of Espoo, which is west of the capital Helsinki.
