25th anniversary comeback announced

Disney+ is breathing new life into the family sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle.” The comeback for the show’s 25th anniversary will consist of four episodes. However, there is still no start date for the rebooted series.

Everyone back on board (almost)

For the revival, the production is relying on well-known faces: most of the original cast has already been confirmed. This is how Frankie Muniz finds himself in his role as Malcolm – a special feature because in 2006 the actor changed careers and became a professional racing driver. Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek also return in the roles of parents Hal and Lois.

According to Deadline, Christopher Kennedy Masterson and Justin Berfield will also be back as brothers Francis and Reese – in contrast to Erik Per Sullivan, who played the youngest child, Dewey. He ended his acting career in 2010 and is unlikely to be part of the cast. The creator of the original series, Linwood Boomer, and director Ken Kwapis will once again provide the right gags at the right time in the new edition.

“What a joy that I get to yell at this kid again!”

The streaming platform announced the sequel with clips of the series heroes. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for 18 years,” Muniz said in it. “Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now,” the now 39-year-old continued. Cranston, who shot to superstardom in 2012’s Breaking Bad, joked: “I’m so excited I might have peed. Just a little bit.” And Jane Kaczmarek was looking forward to her recognition feature, which we should all still have in our ears: “What a joy that I can shout at this child again!”

What is the family doing without a last name 20 years later?

“Malcolm in the Middle” started in 2000 on the US channel Fox. By the finale in 2007, seven seasons with a total of 151 episodes had been released. The sitcom tells the story of a lower middle class American family: mother, father and four (later five) sons from the fictional suburb of Newcastle. The sandwich child Malcolm has a particularly difficult time in the everyday chaos of the family: he is highly gifted – but that doesn’t always mean an advantage for him.

The new season now follows the adult Malcolm, who as a father copes with the turbulence of the extended family with his daughter. Meanwhile, Hal and Lois are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary – will that go smoothly?
