The first report of the fire on Ombilinstraat came in at 5.28 pm this afternoon. The emergency services were then scaled up twice.
Local residents say a bang could have been heard. Images show that the porch of the house is significantly damaged. The police cannot yet say whether it was an intentional explosion or an accident.
No injuries
Four people were checked by ambulance personnel for smoke inhalation, but they did not have to be taken to hospital.
The residents of the evacuated homes cannot return home for the time being. If that is not possible tonight, shelter will be arranged for them.
Investigation into cause
It is not yet known what caused the explosion. The police have turned the location into a crime scene and are investigating.
