A 21-year-old man from Breda died in the accident last night on the N246 near Markenbinnen. His fellow passenger, a man (21) from Amersfoort, is still in a critical condition in hospital. A possible third victim is being searched in and around the water.
At one collision between three cars last night on the N246 one of the cars got into the water. One of the passengers, the man from Amersfoort, was thrown from the car by the impact.
The man from Breda was taken out of the car by emergency services, but it turned out that he had already died.
Search third victim
Police suspect a third person was in the car. The search for this possible victim lasted all night. In the course of the morning, a special diving team from the national underwater team (LTOZ) took over the search. They are now combing part of the Markervaart.
Shipping traffic in the Markervaart between the Enge Stierop and the Tapsloot cannot continue there because of the search.
