2:1 against St. Pauli! Union’s dream of the cup final in Berlin is alive

Berlin, Berlin, the Irons dream of the final in Berlin! After the 2:1 against St. Pauli, Union moves into the DFB Cup semifinals!

Union collects a bonus of two million euros – and continues to dream of the final in their own city. Sunday the round of the last four will be drawn, will be played on 19./20. April.

The crackling in the stands can be felt from the start. Coach Urs Fischer does not experiment much, brings his best eleven. With Taiwo Awoniyi in the starting XI. Only Frederik Rönnow gets a chance in goal – the sixth competitive game for the Dane of the season, the first in the Försterei.

Rönnow is the focus of Hamburg’s first dangerous action: Timo Baumgartl causes a foul on Kyereh just outside the edge of the penalty area. The German-Ghanaian himself shoots the ball from 17 meters into the goalkeeper’s corner. Rönnow looks unhappy (21st).

The iron ones have to shake themselves briefly. Sheraldo Becker checks the ex-Herthaner Smarsch in the Pauli goal (32′), the signal is clear: The equalizer should come quickly. And he falls. By Becker. seconds before the break whistle.

Baumgartl sends Taiwo Awoniyi long, Schmarsch comes out of the gate but slips. The ball comes to Becker, who takes the ball out of the air and maneuvers it into the empty goal (45′).

Union legend Torsten Mattuschka during the break on “Sky”: “It’s very important that Union comes 1-1 at halftime. You are too imprecise in the last third. The draw is flattering for Union.”

After the break, the Köpenicker press on. With success. Another long ball. A hamburger slips away for the second time. Medic slips, substitute Andreas Vogslammer intervenes and shoots Union a round further (75th).

The final dream is alive because two hamburgers slip and fall. Haven’t you heard of screw-in cleats on the Reeperbahn?

The iron ones don’t care. Now there are only two wins left until the cup.
