Wim Kieft has once caused panic with a sneeze just before a broadcast of Today Inside. “There was 2,000 euros worth of cocaine on the table at the time,” says Johan Derksen.
There is currently a lot of talk about Eva van de Wijdeven and Ferry Doedens, but addicted celebrities have existed for all time. Wim Kieft also struggled with it for a long time. “We of course had Kieft at the table. He was addicted to a combination of white wine and coke. That went wrong,” says Today Inside star Johan Derksen in Greetings from Grolloo.
2,000 euros of coke
Johan remembers that one time things really went wrong. “I remember: he once had a sneezing fit just before a broadcast and we have such a black table and there was 2,000 euros of coke on the table.”
He continues: “Then Van der Gijp and I dusted and wiped the entire table, because there was still twenty seconds before we started. But Wim, I must say, we and the entire team took care of this in a very collegial manner.”
Debts
How did the VI team do that? “I arranged for his book to be published so he could pay off his debts,” says Johan. “Rob Jansen, the former manager, solved many financial problems, and we got Wim back at the table reborn.”
He concludes: “Look, I was the oldest and I had to pee before a broadcast, but Wim had to pee 28 times, but he always came out of the toilet sniffling!”
