Early Fortune hit, Lautern strikes back

The hosts started the game with concentration and had chances to score early on through Christoph Klarer and Tim Oberdorf, but Andreas Luthe squandered them in the Lauterer box. Karbownik’s goal soon had the Fortuna supporters clicking their tongues: the Pole completed his dribbling against two players from the Palatinate with a powerful shot from a central position about 15 meters into the top right corner.

Düsseldorf dominated the game in the first half, but the guests from Kaiserslautern didn’t allow the home team to score any more. Shortly after the break, Kraus, who came on for the second half of the game, used a corner from the right with a header from five meters to equalize.

Unlucky Mansfeld, match winner Klement

Marcel Mansfeld became the most unlucky man of the game: Substituted in the 87th minute, the man from Düsseldorf injured his elbow after only two minutes on landing after a duel and had to be driven off the field. Shortly before, Mansfeld had served Felix Klaus, who had put goalkeeper Luthe to the test again with a hard shot.

When the fans in the stadium were already preparing for the division of points, goalscorer Karbownik hit Opoku on the foot in the penalty area, whereupon referee Benjamin Cortus awarded a penalty. Klement didn’t miss the chance and scored on the bottom left to win Lauterer.

Kaiserslautern directly with endurance test

After the World Cup and the winter break, the away game against Hannover will be an endurance test for promoted Kaiserslautern (Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 8:30 p.m.). Düsseldorf welcomes 1. FC Magdeburg a day earlier (6.30 p.m.).
