Impressive and in shorts, Bochum’s new coach Uwe Rösler has marched through the last few weeks with VfL. Dynamo Dresden wants to end the Ruhrpott team’s unbeaten streak. And goes into the game against the Bundesliga relegated team on Castroper Straße with self-confidence.
“I’ve had it on several times this year” – Thomas Stamm’s lucky sweater from the previous season has obviously lost its effect given seven defeats this season and the penultimate place in the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. “Maybe I have to go to the fan shop again and get something completely new,” said the Dynamo Dresden coach at the press conference before the upcoming duel on Friday (November 21, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. in the live ticker and can be heard completely live in the SPORT IM OSTEN app) at VfL Bochum.

Bochum coach Rösler: shorts and Undefeated streak
And Stamm also makes it clear: “It won’t be shorts.” Bochum’s new coach Uwe Rösler has been causing a stir with these shorts since the beginning of October. Under Rösler, VfL returned to the road to success. Bochum have been unbeaten in four league games and a cup duel against Bundesliga club Augsburg. Most recently there was a 2-0 win in Braunschweig. Even at 6 degrees Celsius, always active on the sidelines with shorts: Uwe Rösler. After a short time, the item of clothing already had cult character, so the Bochum fan shop already included the trousers in its range.
Bochum has been unbeaten in five competitive games under new coach Uwe Rösler.
Dynamo coach Stamm: “Different energy”
“It’s not the shorts that make Bochum do so well in the last few weeks,” Dynamo coach Stamm also knows. “I perceive a different energy, a different intensity from the outside. From the outside they seem very closed, very compact,” the Dresden coach analyzed. “They found the flow through the coaching change. It’s up to us to break that on Friday.”
Can Dresden learn from Braunschweig?
Stamm probably watched the last Bochum game in particular for the project. VfL won in Braunschweig. But Eintracht dominated the game: with 16:7 shots on goal, 2.24 vs. 1.85 expected goals, significantly more duels won (137:99) and the better statistics of successful passes (455:289). Braunschweig coach Heiner Backhaus’s team just didn’t score any goals. “You can’t actually lose a game with the data. You can never lose that,” complained Backhaus after the game.
Bochum cheers and shorts.
Rösler explained what made life in Braunschweig so difficult for his team. In the first half, the Bundesliga relegated team was completely out of the game for 30 minutes: “They played very directly, they won every other ball, they won every header. We were pushed in at the back, we didn’t have any room to breathe.”
Bochum Test match defeat
A match plan that should also lead Dynamo to an away win. A test match between VfL and third division Osnabrück showed that Bochum can also lose under Rösler. Last weekend, the Bochum team, who had switched to eleven positions, clearly lost 1:4.
Dresden test match victory
The Dresden team, on the other hand, gained self-confidence. The Saxons won 3-0 in a friendly against third division team Cottbus. Stamm was particularly happy about the defensive stability. “It’s about making sure we can do it well at the second division level without coming too close to Cottbus. That makes me feel good,” says the 42-year-old. “It’s also about us gaining self-confidence.”
If the Dynamo kickers manage to bring this onto the pitch, there will certainly be no need for a new lucky item of clothing from coach Stamm.
