Miami (AP) – The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz surprisingly won the Miami Open of tennis professionals. In the final of the Masters 1000 event, the 18-year-old defeated the sixth seeded Norwegian Casper Ruud 7: 5 and 6: 4 and celebrated his third tournament win overall on the ATP tour.

Alcaraz had already knocked out last year’s winner Hubert Hurkacz from Poland in the semifinals. Ruud, who had defeated German number 1 Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals of the hard court tournament in Florida, which was worth around 8.6 million US dollars, found too few means against the powerful game of number 16 in the world rankings, especially in the second set.
