17-year-old French convinced: Youngest Bayern goal scorer: Tel breaks Musiala record

FC Bayern Munich used numerous newcomers in the starting XI in the 5-0 DFB Cup win against Viktoria Köln. Above all, Ryan Gravenberch and Mathys Tel were convincing. The 17-year-old Tel immediately set a record.

It was a small risk that coach Julian Nagelsmann took. In the first round of the cup, he allowed his supposed second guard to play against Viktoria Köln. But it was the newcomers Ryan Gravenberch and Mathys Tel who set the tone after a mixed game at the start.

The 20-year-old Dutchman Gravenberch (38th) and the three-year-old Frenchman Tel (45th + 1) taught Bayern 5: 0 (2: 0) in the third division not only in the lead with their goals before the break – they also showed the strength of the newly formed Bayern-Bank with a lot of speed, enthusiasm and technique.

Record for Tel – younger than Musiala

And with his first professional goal Tel immediately secured a record: At just 17 years and 126 days he is the youngest Bayern goalscorer of all time in a competitive game and replaces Jamal Musiala (17 years and 205 days).

A Champions League record beckons

Should Tel be used against Inter Milan in the Champions League next week. The next record already beckons: Then he would be the youngest player in FC Bayern history in the premier class.

Talent, jewel, mini Mbappé

Tel is considered a “super talent”, “Sturmjuwel”, he has even been nicknamed “Mini-Mbappé”. The record champion has invested 20 million in the French – although he has hardly more than a few minutes of first division experience in the French Ligue 1.

“You want to see that these players stand out,” said coach Julian Nagelsmann in the sports show about his super talents. He quickly dismissed the victory: “I’m not a fan of the first round of the cup, because as a favorite you can only lose there.”
