The volleyball players of SSC Schwerin got the 13th German championship title in their club history. The Mecklenburg women defeated Dresdner SC 3: 2 (23:25, 18:25, 25:15, 25:21, 15:11) on Saturday after a strong comeback.

When the last point was played, all the dams broke in the Schwerin arena. The players hopped like wild in a circle, coach Felix Koslowski briefly lay on the floor, yellow-gold confetti flew from the ranks. “SSC, SSC, SSC”, it echoed through the hall.

But all the spectators had already stood before and the Schweriners had frenetically passed forward after a nervous start and 0: 2 set deficit. In a dramatic encounter, the Mecklenburg women increased in indication, acceptance and passing on Saturday from the third sentence and earned the decisive third victory in the third game. It is the first championship title for the SSC since 2018, the 13th in the club history after the club had previously triumphed seven times in the GDR.

“I am so happy for the players,” said Coach Koslowski-shortly after the award ceremony with a yellow T-shirt “Now it beats 13” and a black star-sunglasses-at the streaming dyn. The 41-year-old also thought of everyone in the club at the moment of victory. With a view of the season, he said: “We played great volleyball and it’s nice if you can reward yourself.”

Good SSC start, but the first sentences go to Dresden

It looked at the beginning, it could have been far less dramatic. Because his team got a dream start and quickly took the lead 6: 3. Of the first six points, three resulted from Assen, one from a block. However, the Dresden women were not unsettled by an interim five-point deficit (4: 9) and fought back in the sentence. With the 15:14 they took the lead for the first time, had the stronger nerves and got sentence one with 25:23. It was the first set win of the DSC in the final series after the SSC won the first two games 3-0.

The loss of section one left effect with the team of coach Felix Koslowski. At the beginning of the second set, his players initially took the lead 5: 3, but then allowed eight points in a row (5:11). The assumption did not fit, but the SSC did not cope with the block game of the guests. The Schwerin women had problems in particular against DSC middle blocker Emma Scarlett Clothier. Koslowski tried to re -draw up time and replacements, alone: ​​it did nothing – 25:18 for the DSC.

Strong comeback leads to the title

How would the Koslowski team react to the 0-2 set deficit? The answer: strong. The team stabilized in surcharge, acceptance and passing. With an ASA with network touch, Jaelyn Keene caused a quick 4: 1, Elles Dambrink smashed into the field after a long rallies for 5: 1. In the middle of the sentence, the Schwerin women scored five points in a row and decreased to 15: 7. Now Leana Grozer, MVP from game two, came through better over the outside – 18:10. The Dresden women tried everything, in the meantime made another three points in a row, but when Keene blocked the ball at 25:15, the SSC had made the connection.

The fourth sentence was initially balanced (6: 6), then the hosts settled 9: 6 with three points in a row. Anne Hölzig took the ninth point with an ace. Now the hall was finally fully there again – after three more points in a row it was 15: 8. The Dresden women made it exciting again with a 6-0 run at 17:17, but the SSC kept the upper hand (25:21) and forced the decision set.

There, after a balanced start (6: 6), the Mecklenburgers set off to 11: 7, got it briefly with their nerves (11:11), but then turned the first match ball to 15:11 – and the title. The confetti flew, the cheers in the hall knew no limits. It had hit 13.
