In the coming years, the government will invest almost €120 million in connecting rental properties to heating networks and the construction of homes for the elderly. This concerns €77 million for heating networks and €40 million for elderly homes. The government announced this in the Spring Memorandum, the update of the (VRO) budget for 2025 and subsequent years.

The government is making €77 million available for connecting rental properties to heating networks. This subsidy contributes to the realization of new heating networks and helps to make homes natural gas-free. The amount will be available from the autumn of 2026 for the Incentive Scheme for Natural Gas-Free Rental Homes (SAH). The SAH provides subsidies to social and private landlords and mixed homeowners’ associations.

In 2027, the government will spend €40 million on encouraging the construction of clustered housing for the elderly. Adequate housing for the elderly is an important priority of this government. With this money, housing associations, market parties, citizen initiatives and healthcare providers can create meeting spaces for the elderly, even when they require serious care. The funds may be spent on meeting spaces in both new and existing buildings. The amount will be available in the new tranche of the Incentive Scheme for Meeting Spaces in Housing for the Elderly (SOO), which will be opened later this year.
