A horse died on Friday evening after a collision on the Valendonkstraat in Berghem, just outside the village. The animal ended up in a ditch after the collision. The fire brigade managed to pull the horse out of the cold water shortly after midnight with the help of fire hoses and a lot of manpower. A vet was quickly present. She saw that the animal had broken two legs in the collision. To spare the animal further suffering, it was decided to put it to sleep.
