Hertha has improved significantly in many areas – but an old weakness cost them the win against Bochum. Now only a goalkeeper change helps!
Hertha only manages a 1-1 draw against VfL and has to wait for their first win in 2022. After all, the horror series of three home bankruptcies in a row can stop the Berliners.
In the fight for relegation, however, the counter is almost too little. After the final whistle the fans whistled. Because again it is the man between the posts who has his unfortunate part in this draw. Vulnerability Schwolow!
In the 48th minute, Bochum striker Sebastian Polter pushed the ball into the goal to make it 1-1. Hertha keeper Alexander Schwolow had let a durable Locadia shot from the edge of the box bounce in front of his feet – not the number 1’s first mistake this season.
Kempf served: “We conceded the equalizer with a shot on goal. You can’t concede a goal like that.” Schwolow’s weakness! Already in the 1: 4 against Bayern he was responsible for a goal by Leroy Sané with a catastrophe pass. And in the first home game of the year against Cologne (1:3) Schwolow made a mistake when Ondrej Duda conceded.

Hertha starts the game well. Lots of shots, duels won, ball won – coach Tayfun Korkut’s team has improved significantly after the international break. After a Jovetic free-kick, Sturm partner Ishak Belfodil nodded to take the lead (23′) – the first header in the Bundesliga for the Algerian in three years.
With defensive ace Marc Kempf and substitute South Korean speedster Dong-jun Lee, two winter additions celebrate their competitive debut. While central defender Kempf convinced in the starting XI alongside Niklas Stark, Joker Lee failed.
That applies to the entire Hertha team in the second half. After the goalkeeper-Klops and subsequent goal, self-confidence slips into the basement. Clear attack actions – none. It will probably be a long relegation battle for Hertha…
