If manager Johan Görtemöller is working in the Heemtuin, he is looked at by Jac. P. Thijsse. Figure, because his workplace is the legacy of the renowned nature lover. But also almost literally, because in the middle of the site, overlooking the dune pond, is a true -to -life statue of Thijsse. With one hand in the side he looks out at his court.

“Yes,” Johan admits, “I think regularly: what would Thijsse think about this?” He does not dare to give the answer and the Thijsse questions are no longer possible. Jac. P. Thijsse, originally Limburger, lived from 1865 to 1945. He spent the second half of his life in Bloemendaal.

Former potato goer

For his 60th birthday, Thijsse received a piece of wasteland from the municipality of Bloemendaal as a gift. The aim was to transform the former potato lacquer into a heme garden: a green place where animals and plants can be admired that have traditionally occurred in the region. And in this case that region was the dune area of ​​Zuid-Kennemerland.
