‘Riding with a smile and a tear’ is the motto of the Santa Máxima organizers. Minko van Es from De Rijp speaks of mixed feelings on a day like today. “It’s very pleasant on such a day and you can see that they enjoy it, but you know why you are doing it, so sometimes a tear is shed.”
He organizes this tour together with Arno van Kampen from Abbekerk. This is now the fourth time. From Abbekerk they drive via Hoogwoud to Heerhugowaard. Have a coffee stop in De Rijp, then continue through Alkmaar, Egmond aan Zee, to end back in Heerhugowaard. A journey of 100 kilometers.
Before departure, the counter already stood at 30 thousand euros. An unprecedented amount, says Van Es. “We are already almost at the target amount, which feels great.” The entire amount goes to the ‘accommodation and activities’ department of the Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht. It is ensured that ‘daily life’ and the development of the children and the family can continue as much as possible, during and after their treatment.
