100 m sprint: Lückenkemper in the World Cup semifinals – Burghardt out

Status: 07/17/2022 03:13 am

Gina Lückenkemper sprinted into the 100m semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene. Alexandra Burghardt, on the other hand, was eliminated. The medals will be awarded on Monday.

Lückenkemper ran a good 11.09 seconds on the first lap after a weak start. The winner in the race of the 25-year-old German champion was the Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.87), who recently became world champion three times in a row.

On Monday in the semifinals (2.33 a.m. CEST) the second German starter, Alexandra Burghardt, will not be there. The 28-year-old finished sixth in her lead with 11.29 seconds and was eliminated. The Burghausen resident missed the last chance to meet the European Championship standard of 11.24 seconds. European Champion Dina Asher-Smith won the race with a season best of 10.84 seconds and thus set the fastest lead time.

The medals will also be awarded on Monday (4:50 a.m. CEST). Katrin Krabbe won the last German medal in the women’s sprint as world champion in 1991 in Tokyo. The last time Melanie Paschke was in a 100m World Championship final was in 1997, when the Wattenscheider finished sixth.

Lückenkemper was the first German since Krabbe to sprint under 11 seconds (10.95) at the 2017 World Championships in London, but was eliminated in the semifinals. Only at the DM in Berlin did the European Vice Champion stay below the mark again. A participation in the final for Lückenkemper would be a surprise in Eugene.
