100 apartments evacuated after fire in parking garage Breda

A hundred apartments were evacuated on Wednesday evening in the fire in the parking garage under an apartment complex in the Monseigneur Zwijsenstraat in Breda. The fire is under control, all homes are being checked for carbon monoxide. Residents are accommodated if necessary.

The fire brigade speaks of a ‘very large fire’, nine cars were on fire. The fire started around a quarter past eight. Several firefighters have been deployed to fight the fire. A lot of police have also been turned out, and some roads in the area have been closed for a long time.

It is not yet clear how the fire started. Most residents have their own place where they can go, for those who do not, shelter is arranged. The fire brigade expected around 10 p.m. that residents would be able to go home during the night.

Hospital
The security region warned local residents to stay away from the smoke. “Stay out of the smoke and close windows and doors in case of nuisance and turn off ventilation,” said the fire service.

Nine people have complaints because they have inhaled smoke, six of them had to go to the hospital.

Previous fire
The fire was under control around 10:30 am. The fire service is still busy ventilating the rooms for some time. There is also post-extinguishing in the garage.

Four days ago, a car fire broke out in the same parking basement.
