“Really sexy” – Club celebrates historic figures

Historic success at 1. FC Nürnberg: Losses suddenly turn into profits worth millions. And then there is a surprising personality.
1. FC Nürnberg has completed the most successful financial year in its club history. With total revenues of a good 105 million euros, the Swiss francs broke the three-digit million mark for the first time. In the end there was a surplus of around 13 million euros – something the club has never seen before.
“Numbers can be sexy – this year they are really sexy,” announced CFO Stefan Heim at the general meeting. In the previous year, the second division team had made a loss of 1.4 million euros.
The record is mainly due to lucrative player sales. Stefanos Tzimas moved to Brighton & Hove Albion, Can Uzun to Eintracht Frankfurt, Finn Jeltsch to VfB Stuttgart and Jens Castrop to Borussia Mönchengladbach. These four departures brought in a total of 52.4 million euros.
However, Nuremberg also invested heavily in new professionals. The expenses amounted to 28.6 million euros. The biggest position: Striker Tzimas was initially on loan and had to be released from Paok Saloniki for 18 million before he could be passed on for a profit.
In addition to the transfer business, other factors contributed to the success. The 125th anniversary brought the club additional income through special promotions. The better stadium occupancy also had a positive effect – the Max Morlock Stadium was sold out more often than in the previous season.
The meeting also had a surprise in store: Marek Mintal is returning. The former Bundesliga top scorer will work as a striker coach with young players from the promising squad from January. In 210 league games, the Slovakian scored 77 times for FCN and won the DFB Cup in 2007.
Chairman of the Supervisory Board Peter Meier was satisfied. We were able to “provide important impulses for the sporting and economic future of our club”.
