1. FC Union declares “no” to investors joining the DFL

Union Berlin is not one of the 24 first and second division clubs that have given their consent to the planned entry of an investor into the German Football League (DFL).

They explained their own position in detail “and voted against the proposal today,” said President Dirk Zingler in a statement distributed by Union on X, formerly Twitter.

The vote at the DFL general meeting was held secretly. The much-discussed motion barely received the required two-thirds majority.

In a letter to the DFL and the other 35 professional clubs on Sunday, Zingler called for the vote on investor involvement to be postponed and sharply criticized the behavior of other clubs.

Among other things, Union’s president wanted the clubs to “spend time and effort to achieve unity, to create a broad consensus among all those involved, to develop a position of strength,” as the letter said.
