1. FC Saarbrücken botches dress rehearsal

1. FC Saarbrücken failed in its dress rehearsal for the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup despite having a long majority.

Five days before the big duel with Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Saarlanders only managed a 1-1 (0-1) draw with Borussia Dortmund II in the 3rd football league – even though BVB offensive player Falko Michel had already seen red in the eighth minute.

Rodney Elongo-Yombo (26th) gave BVB the lead when they were outnumbered. Saarbrücken struggled to equalize, Manuel Zeitz (86th) only scored late. The Dortmund team had previously had a lot of space, but they didn’t use it consistently.

For Saarbrücken it will be the semi-finals of the DFB Cup on Wednesday (8.45 p.m./Sky and ZDF) in Ludwigspark at home. On the way to the quarter-finals, coach Rüdiger Ziehl’s team has already knocked Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt out of the competition.
