1. FC Nürnberg: Uzun had “some offers” – comparison with Gündogan “honors me very much”

Nuremberg’s shooting star

Can Uzun is one of the shooting stars of the 2nd Bundesliga. The youngster from 1. FC Nürnberg has scored eight goals and two assists in 14 competitive games so far in his first full professional season, which is why he was given an increase of 4.5 million to 5 million euros in the latest market value update. On the occasion of his 18th birthday this Saturday, the central midfielder spoke in a “Picture“-Interview about offers in the summer, comparisons with Ilkay Gündogan and coach Cristian Fiél.

Clubs like Benfica, Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt were linked to the teenager in the summer – Uzun didn’t name any names, but he confirmed: “I also had a few offers, but I definitely wanted to continue my path here first. I feel very comfortable and it is a perfect environment for me. I can really keep pushing here.”

Uzun has been training at the “Club” since 2019 and his contract runs until 2026. If he continues his development, it will probably be difficult for Nuremberg to keep him. Where he sees himself in three years is therefore “difficult to say” for Uzun. “I just try to do my best in every training session and every game and then we’ll see where the path takes me.”

Sports director Olaf Rebbe also recently spoke about the future of the talent in a Transfermarkt interview: “Can has a long-term contract with us. He has made great development and we are very proud that we have been able to support and support him for so long. He has drawn attention with his goals, assists and the way he plays. The fact that he performs so consistently well at his age is extraordinary. We’ll see what the future brings. But this season a change is not an issue.”

1. FC Nürnberg’s Uzun on comparisons with Gündogan and coach Fiél

DFB captain Gündogan also played in Nuremberg at the beginning of his career before leaving the club at the age of 20 to move to Borussia Dortmund. “I am very honored to be compared to a player like that. If I had a career like his, I would go straight into it. Of course I hope that I can follow a similar path to him,” emphasized Uzun.

Coach Fiél is a “very important factor” in his development. “We get along really well and he also helps me a lot on the pitch. Tell me where I can still improve and what I still need to learn. I can’t be a finished footballer yet. He helps me enormously and I hope it continues in the same way.”
