Dieter Hecking remains the sporting director of 1. FC Nürnberg. The former cup winner coach of VfL Wolfsburg and the supervisory board of the Franconian second division club have agreed on a new contract after lengthy negotiations.
The 58-year-old used to be the coach of 1. FC Nürnberg himself and has been the sporting director since the summer of 2020. His contract was originally scheduled to run until the end of June 2023. The association did not provide any information on the term of the new employment relationship.
Hecking had also taken time to think about his private situation. His wife continues to live near Hanover.
“In the past two years or so, my work has certainly not been flawless. But we have initiated many important and future-oriented measures for the club,” Hecking also acknowledged his own shortcomings.
After the change of coach from Robert Klauss to Markus Weinzierl, the club is currently only 16th in the table.
