Substituted in the derby
Dejan Ljubicic will be absent from 1. FC Köln until the end of the year. The 25-year-old midfielder injured his knee in the 2-5 (1-2) win in the Rheinderby at Borussia Mönchengladbach. After the final whistle, coach Steffen Baumgart had predicted a longer downtime, and the club officially confirmed it on Monday.
With six goals in all competitions, Ljubicic is Cologne’s top scorer this season. On Sunday he was substituted after 40 minutes after a collision with Ramy Bensebaini. The Gladbacher had seen the yellow card for this, not enough for Baumgart. “This scene has been misjudged,” said the FC coach, who spoke of a “brutal foul”.
