Debut with “fingering”: Kwasniok wins and sorts out
12.07.2025 – 7:54 p.m.Reading time: 2 min.

First victory, first finger: Lukas Kwasniok won his debut as a coach of 1. FC Köln and sorted out a player before the test game.
A total of 24 players were able to present their new coach Lukas Kwasniok at the first test game of the summer, which the 1st FC Köln won 7-1 at SV Bergisch Gladbach on Saturday afternoon. An established professional did not make it into the squad of the “billy goats”: Sargis Adamyan at the start of the preparation duelle.
In addition to youngster Emin Kujovic (should be awarded), the attacker, which was recently awarded to SV Jahn Regensburg, was the only player who was not part of the Cologne line -up in Bergisch Gladbach. After only five training days, Kwasniok and the FC managers set a clear sign-Adamyan is to finally leave the club this summer.
“It was a finger that the chances of getting an incredible number of times here at FC are rather low,” the coach commented on the non-nomination of Adamyans and pushed after: “I think that changes will be brought about at some point.” Adamyan is still under contract at Geißbockheim until 2026. It is unclear whether he wants to give up his lucrative working paper prematurely.
Of the players who were allowed to be in the Belkaw-Arena sold out with 5,000 spectators, Kwasniok saw no glossy performance on Saturday afternoon. “We scored seven goals, that was quite good. But we also had a few problems, it was obvious, everyone saw that,” the 44-year-old fell a mixed conclusion after his debut.
A double pack from Linton Maina (14th/16th minute) and a distance gate by Steffen Tigges (18th) initially ensured a quick 3-0 lead. Fifth division Bergisch Gladbach always brought the Cologne defensive into trouble and came through a mistake by Marvin Schwäbe, who made a harmless long -term shot of captain Claudio Heider passed, to the honor goal (21st).
The further Cologne lecture before the break whistle was extremely manageable, Kwasniok also saw it as follows: “I am not one who was nice to do things. We didn’t play the stars from heaven.” The trainer noted: “That was not expected after five training days.”
In the second half, with a completely new team and a system change from 3-2-3-1, the FC radiated more dominance and screwed the result through new signing Ragnar Ache (46.), Etienne Borie (58.), Fayssal Harchaoui (61.) and Luca Waldschmidt (85.) Ultimately to a standing 7: 1.
“It was a good basic week,” said Kwasniok, and looked ahead of the second week of training: “Now it is about working in detail on things.” Because: “It won’t be enough.” After the training -free Sunday, the Cologne head coach wants to see quick progress.
