Deadline day laggards
1. FC Köln officially announced their personal deadline day stragglers on Friday and thus reacted to personal concerns on the defensive. The “Effzeh” strengthens with Nikola Soldo from Lokomotiva Zagreb. The central defender and son of ex-Bundesliga professional Zvonimir Soldo will receive a contract with the Domstädter until June 2025. The portal “Germanijak”, “Bild” and also Transfermarkt had previously reported on the upcoming change.
According to reports, Cologne’s sports director Christian Keller traveled to Croatia for a last-minute deal with a doctor so that the medical check and signature could be completed before the transfer deadline by 6 p.m. on Thursday. In Zagreb, Soldo had increased its market value by more than 1 million euros in the last season. Nothing was initially known about the exact transfer fee.
Weigl, Piatek & Co.: The Bundesliga transfers on Deadline Day
“Following our injury-related absences, we decided to get back into the transfer market. In Nikola we have found a good option for our defence. He is technically strong, robust and comes to us with the rhythm of the game. Of course, moving to the Bundesliga means a leap for Nikola. We definitely have confidence in him,” said Keller.

New signing Soldo said: “I am very happy that the move to the Bundesliga to 1. FC Köln has come about. It was always my goal to play in Germany, one of the biggest football leagues in the world, where my father also played for ten years. He’s already told me a lot about FC. I know that 1. FC Köln is a club with a long tradition and very passionate fans. Just like FC, I have big ambitions. The philosophy of relying on young players here is all the more an incentive for me to give everything. I watched FC’s last games and know that there is a good team spirit here and the team is like a family. I can’t wait to start training and get to know all the coaches and team-mates.”
