“Enjoyed every second”

Marco Höger will give up his soccer shoes in summer. The 35 -year -old midfielder, who has been under contract with 1. FC Köln since the summer of 2023 and is active for the second team, ends his professional career after 15 years. The long -standing professional is still preserved for effzeh and will work as a scout in the performance area of the academy.
“In summer, a very big and emotional chapter in my life ends. I started playing football at the age of four,” said Höger. “The soccer field was always a place where I felt very comfortable. I love the sport and I will always love it. I have always done everything out of pure passion. I would like to thank all of my companions, clubs and fans. I enjoyed every second. I am happy that I can herald a new section here at FC in my life from summer and thank the person responsible for your trust.”
Höger completed the most games with 127 for FC Schalke 04, with which he played in the Champions League. He started his professional career at Alemannia Aachen in 2010 before going to the 1. FC Köln for five years through Schalke in 2016. After a detour for two seasons to Waldhof Mannheim, he led FC youngsters as captain in the past two years. This season he saw nine yellow and three yellow-red cards.
Cologne’s young manager Lukas Berg said about Höger’s decision: “In relation to Marco’s step, the expression” with a crying and with a laughing eye “certainly fits best. Marco has practiced the role as captain of the U21 in a way that we could not have imagined better – I can only thank him for that. It will be difficult to replace him.
