Steffen Tigges from Borussia Dortmund was considered a dream player for 1. FC Köln a year ago. Now the Domstädter and trainer Steffen Baumgart have dared a second attempt at the BVB attacker – apparently with success.
According to “Bild”, BVB striker Steffen Tigges successfully completed his medical check-up at 1. FC Köln on Monday afternoon. Nothing stands in the way of a transfer between the two Bundesliga clubs. The player is said to sign his new contract in the evening.
After initially assuming a loan deal, a firm transfer is now emerging. Noisy “picture” the Domklub transfers around 1.5 million euros to BVB. His salary in Cologne is said to be less than one million euros.
Tigges had previously been traded by the “kicker” as Cologne’s ideal solution when looking for a new centre-forward. The 23-year-old, whose current contract ends in 2024, therefore has all the general conditions that are currently crucial for 1. FC Köln.
The former German U-national player is said to be willing to run and work hard. So Tigges brings a mentality that particularly impresses Cologne’s head coach Steffen Baumgart.
Tigges frequently injured at BVB
He should also be sure that he can continue to develop the player as a footballer after he had to accept significant setbacks in the past season.
Two injuries forced Tigges to take longer breaks. Most recently, he was out for three months in the second half of the season due to an ankle injury.
After only nine season games for BVB in the Bundesliga, none of them from the start, the native of Osnabrück finally wants to make the final breakthrough in the German football upper league.
That’s what 1. FC Köln expect from Steffen Tigges
At Effzeh, head coach Baumgart has still not given up on the original idea of attacking with two nominal strikers.
In the last season he often had to discard this approach, as Sebastian Andersson, the first alternative for goalscorer Anthony Modeste, was injured several times.
Tigges would probably fit well into the team structure as a committed offensive partner from the French star Cologne.
At least that’s what the people of Cologne are hoping for, who need new qualities and flexibility in the last third for the demanding upcoming season in three competitions.
