The dress comes from The Catholic University of America in Washington. A drama teacher received the dress as a gift from the Hollywood actress Mercedes McCambridge in 1973, but the item of clothing was lost not much later. The dress was found in a bag during renovations last year, reports NBC News† The dress will be auctioned on May 24 by auction house Bonhams in Los Angeles.
In the film, Garland also wears a dress with a blouse. That piece of clothing yielded more than 1.5 million dollars (1.4 million euros) in 2015. The costume of De bange lion (The Cowardly Lion) from the film brought in almost 3.1 million dollars (2.9 million euros) in 2014.
