There was a lot of fuss about the play-off games. Due to riots after the competition match FC Volendam – Telstar, it was initially decided not to allow away fans. After protests from Tilburg, but also from Groningen and Utrecht (who play against Ajax in Volendam), this measure was reversed.
This happened after the Volendam section at Willem II was forced to remain empty last Wednesday. Moreover, to the dismay of many, the kick-off was brought forward. FC Volendam and Willem II were supposed to face each other at 8 p.m., but that ended up being 4:30 p.m. Ajax – FC Utrecht has also been brought forward tomorrow. That European football match starts at 12:15 PM instead of 6:00 PM.
