9 pm: AEK Larnaca – AZ
AZ has had the opponent in the Youth League since this afternoon, the highest European youth tournament. The Under-19 of AZ is taking on Lincoln Red Imps FC from Gibraltar. The diptych will be played on Tuesday 21 October and on Tuesday 4 November. The team of coach Michael van Zijtveld starts with a home game.
AEK Larnaca is the current number five in Cyprus. Last season the team finished fourth and it won the Cyprus cup. After a 0-0 draw, national champion Paphos was defeated after penalties. Larnaca qualified for the preliminary rounds of the Europa League. Partizan Belgrade and cell were eliminated, but in the play-offs, SK Brann, tonight the opponent of FC Utrecht, turned out to be a size too big. As a result, Larnaca plays in the Conference League. Last weekend Larnaca won 2-0 against Ael Limassol.
AZ does not store good memories of the last trip to Cyprus. In 2022 the team in the Conference League lost 1-0 to Apollon Limassol. Jordy Clasie was then in midfield and Maxim Dekker and Hobie Verhulst from the current selection players were also in the base.
Under summer conditions, AZ will soon play against AEK Larnaca. The temperature in the city was around 30 degrees this afternoon. During the competition it stays hot, because the temperature remains around 25 degrees.
