Max Warmerdam won his first victory in the seventh round of the international chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee. The 24-year-old Limburger won at Tata Steel Chess with white against Arjun Erigaisi from India.

Warmerdam is the first of the three Dutch participants in the masters to achieve a victory. Former winners Anish Giri and Jorden van Foreest have not yet succeeded in this in the 87th edition of the famous chess tournament. Giri came to a draw for the sixth time in a row; he shared the point with Uzbek Nodirbek Abdusattorov. Van Foreest recorded his fifth draw against Praggnanadhaa Rameshbabu from India.

Abdusattorov and Rameshbabu lead the standings with 5 points. The Dutch grandmasters do not participate at the top.
