Michael Korrel won a bronze medal in the 100 kilogram class during the Grand Slam of Tokyo. The Assendelver won the medal after a long battle with Gonchigsuren Batkhuyag from Mongolia. Only in extra time did Korrel manage to score a waza-ari. It was already his third medal at a grand slam this year. Korrel won gold in Paris and silver in Tel Aviv.
The 2022 European champion reached the battle for bronze by beating the Japanese Aaron Wolf in the repechages. Another Japanese, Dota Arai, had kept him from a place in the semi-finals. Tornike Tsjakadoea (Amstelveen) up to 60 kilograms was defeated in the second round by Lee Ha-rim from South Korea.
